William Reid Kilpatrick was the son of John and Mary Kilpatrick. He was born on 8th March 1883 in County Tyrone. He was one of at least ten children. His father died when he was young. His mother ran a boarding house in the Moy. William was a boot and shoe salesman. He emigrated to South Africa. ck was serving with the 2nd Regiment of the South African Infantry when he was killed in action in France on 8th December 1917.

William Reid Kilpatrick was the son of John E and Mary Kilpatrick. John Kilpatrick married Mary Reid on 1st January 1874 in Armagh.
William Kilpatrick was born on 8th March 1883 in County Tyrone. He was one of at least ten children.

GRONI reports the death of a John Kilpatrick on 29th June 1894, aged 54, in the Benburb area. Ref. D/1894/106/1012/7/377
The 1901 census does not list William as living with the family at house 9 in Dungannon Street, Moy, County Tyrone. His mother was a widow. She ran a boarding house.
The 1901 census lists William Reid Kilpatrick as age 18, boarding at house 1 in North Gate Street, Athlone Town, County Westmeath. He was employed as an apprentice boot and shoe salesman.
William Kilpatrick worked in the boot departments of the Bank Buildings, Belfast and for Mr Andrew Johnston in Banbridge.
The 1911 census does not list William as living with the family at house 21 in Dungannon Street, Moy, County Tyrone. His mother was still had a boarding house. There is no record of William on the 1911 census, so it may be assumed that he had emigrated by that time.
After emigrating to South Africa, William was in charge of the boot establishment of W M Cuthbert in Vereeniging for several years.
Private William R. Kilpatrick was serving with the 2nd Regiment of the South African Infantry when he was killed in action in France on 8th December 1917.

Private William Kilpatrick, South African Infantry, killed in action on 8th December, was the second son of the late Mr John E Kilpatrick and Mrs Kilpatrick, Dungannon Street, Moy.
From the Tyrone Courier and Dungannon News dated Thursday 3 January 1918:
Private William Kilpatrick, South African Infantry, who has been killed in action, was the second son of the late Mr John E Kilpatrick and Mrs Kilpatrick, Dungannon Street, Moy. He had formerly been engaged in the boot departments of the Bank Buildings, Belfast and of Mr Andrew Johnston, Banbridge, and, emigrating to South Africa, was in charge of the boot establishment of W M Cuthbert in Vereeniging for several years.
Private William R Kilpatrick is buried in Fins New British Cemetery, Sorel-le-Grand, France.
Private William Kilpatrick is commemorated locally on Moy War Memorial.
Private William Kilpatrick is also commemorated locally on the family headstone in St James Church of Ireland Churchyard in Moy.
The CWGC record Private William Reid Kilpatrick as the son of John and Mary Kirkpatrick of Moy County, Co. Tyrone. It is also stated he served as KIRKPATRICK.
