20/08/2021 Little is known of his early life. Below is a link to a census listing to a John K McAtee, who by 1911 was age 23 and living with his grandmother Hannah at house 18 in Lisky Hill, Fintona, County Tyrone. He was a farm labourer.

20/08/2021 The CWGC record Private John McAtee as the son of James and Mary Anne Kernaghan McAtee. He is also listed as the husband of the late Mary Blair McAtee.
20/08/2021 Private John McAtee has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. The Thiepval Memorial, the Memorial to the Missing of the Somme, bears the names of more than 72,000 officers and men of the United Kingdom and South African forces who died in the Somme sector before 20 March 1918 and have no known grave. Over 90% of those commemorated died between July and November 1916.
20/08/2021 Private John McAtee was serving with the 9th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme on Saturday 1st July 1916.
