Summary      
John Condy was the son of John and Annie Condy. He was born in April 1890 in the Clonavaddy area of Dungannon. They were a farming family from Mullnahunch, Clonaneese. John’s mother died when he was 12. He emigrated to New York and enlisted in Toronto in March 1918. He arrived in England. In April, and later contracted tuberculosis of the lung. He was invalided back to Canada in March and discharged a month later. Gunner John Condy died in 24th July 1921, presumably due to his illness.

John Condy was the son of John and Annie Condy. John Condy and Ann Nimmons were married on 27th March 1879 in the district of Dungannon.
John Condy was born on 30th April 1890. He was one of seven children, all born in the Clonavaddy area of Dungannon.
Family: John Condy, Anne J Condy, Sarah A Condy (born 22nd January 1880), Robert Condy (born 22nd January 1882), James Condy (born 19th January 1884), Alexander Condy (born 1st December 1885), Martha Condy (born 27th November 1887), John Condy (born 30th April 1890), Margaret J Condy (born 15th August 1895).
The 1901 census records John as 9 years old. The family were living in Mullnahunch, Clonaneese, Tyrone. John’s father was a farmer.
John‘s mother, Ann Condy, died in the Dungannon area on 25th October 1902, aged 43. John was 12 years old. It is stated in his military medical records that his mother died from ulcer of stomach.
By the time of the 1911 census, John no longer lived with his father.
On 13th March 1913, John Condy (Birth Date: abt 1891, Birth Location: Mulnakunch, Ireland) arrived in New York from Southampton on a ship called the Philadelphia.
John sometime afterwards returned to England.
On 6th Sep 1914, John Condy (Birth Date: abt 1890, Birth Location: Dungannon, Ireland) arrived in New York from Liverpool on a ship called the Philadelphia.
John Condy was living in New York City, working as a labourer and a valet.
Records show he travelled by train from New York to Bridgeport, Ontario, Canada and then on to Toronto to enlist on 2nd March 1918.
On enlistment he names his next of kin as his sister Martha who was living in Kensington, London. He was 6 ft tall and not married.
Gunner John Condy served with the Canadian Field Artillery.
On 28th April 1918 Gunner Condy arrived with his unit in England.
Gunner Condy became ill while on leave in Ireland. He was treated in hospital there.
He was due back from leave on 21st January 1919. Records show he did not return.
The following letter was sent by Dr James Chambers, Fintona, County Tyrone on 17th January 1919.

Gunner Condy has been under my care while in Ireland and I find him suffering from tuberculosis of the left lung, and I venture to say that this man is very unfit for any active duty, and inm my opinion should have immediate treatment. This man is still unfit for travelling, but he wishes to join his unit. James Chambers M.D. P.S. I sent this man to see a Lieutenant Colonel of the Royal Army Medical Corps who is on leave here and has written to camp about this man.
On 14th March 1919 he was invalided back to Canada.
Gunner John Condy was officially discharged on 29th April 1919 due to being medically unfit.
Gunner John Condy died of tuberculosis after the war on 24th July 1921.
Gunner John Condy is buried Mount Pleasant Cemetery in London, Ontario, Canada.
