Summary      
Mitchell McFarland was the youngest son of Uriah and Lucinda McFarland. He was born on 26th June 1898 in Ballygawley, County Tyrone. He was the second youngest of seven children, all born in the Clonavaddy area. His father was a farm labourer. His mother died when he was five. Private Mitchell McFarlane was serving with the garrison depot of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he died of influenza / pneumonia at the Military Hospital in Omagh on 1st November 1918.

Mitchell McFarland was the youngest son of Uriah and Lucinda McFarland. Uriah McFarland and Lucinda Moore were married on 6th October 1887 in the district of Dungannon.
Mitchell McFarland was born on 26th June 1898 in Ballygawley, County Tyrone. He was the second youngest of seven children, all born in the Clonavaddy area.

The 1901 census records 2 year old Mitchell living with the family in Tullyvannon, Aghnahoe, County Tyrone. Uriah was a farm labourer.
Mitchell’s mother, Lucinda McFarland, died on 30th March 1904, aged 40. Mitchell would have been five years old.
Mitchell’s father remarried. Uriah McFarland and Elizabeth Cairns were married on 13th May 1904 in the district of Dungannon. They went on have three sons.
Family 2: Uriah McFarland, Elizabeth McFarland, James Nessa McFarland (born 20th February 1905, Clonavaddy), Hugh McFarland (born 23rd September 1907, Ballygawley), Robert McFarland (born 6th April 1912, Ballygawley).
The 1911 census does not list Mitchell as living with his step family at house 1 in Coolageery, Ballygawley. The initial family had been split up. Twelve year old Mitchell was living the Thompson family at Tirelugan, Tullyvar, County Tyrone.
Mitchell McFarlane enlisted in Ballygawley.
Private Mitchell McFarlane was serving with the garrison depot of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he died of influenza / pneumonia at the Military Hospital in Omagh on 1st November 1918.
It appears that because he never served in France, he did not have a medal card.
Private Mitchell McFarlane was buried at home in Killeeshil (St. Paul) Church of Ireland Churchyard, which lies midway between Dungannon and Ballygawley.
