Herbert Igoe was the son of William and Isabella Igoe. He was born on 8th May 1887 in Moy, County Tyrone. He was one of ten children, nine surviving, all born in the Dungannon area. By 1911 he had left school and was a shop assistant. His father was a horse dealer and trainer. Herbert Igoe enlisted in Glasgow. Private Herbert Igoe was serving with the 1st Battalion of the Irish Guards when he died on 9th October 1917.
