The 1901 census records ‘Allan’ as 2 years old. The family was living Drumkee, Drumaspil, Tyrone. Thomas’ father was a farmer. By 1911, Thomas J was a 12 year old. His occupation was given as “farmer’s son”. The family was still living Drumkee, Drumaspil, Tyrone. Lance Corporal Thomas John Allen Hunter was serving with the 9th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he died on 16th August 1917, age 19.

Thomas John Allen Hunter was the second son of William and Margaret J. Hunter. William Hunter married Margaret Allen on 30th April 1895 in the district of Cookstown.
Thomas John Allen Hunter was born on 2nd May 1898 in Newmills, County Tyrone. The number of the children cannot be ascertained but there was at least seven.
The 1901 census records Allan as 2 years old. The family was living Drumkee, Drumaspil, Tyrone. Thomas’ father was a farmer.

By 1911, Thomas J was a 12 year old. His occupation was given as “farmer’s son”. The family was still living Drumkee, Drumaspil, Tyrone.
Thomas Hunter enlisted in Dungannon.

Lance Corporal Thomas Allen Hunter was serving with the 9th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he was killed in action on Thursday 16th August 1917, age 19.
Lance Corporal Thomas John Allen Hunter has not known grave and is commemorated on Tyne Cot Memorial in Belgium.
Allen’s older brother, Samuel J Hunter, also served. Sergeant Samuel Hunter served with the 9th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and was awarded the Military Medal in 1918. Sam Hunter survived the war.
From the Belfast Newsletter dated 16th November 1918:
Sergeant Samuel J Hunter, 9th Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, who has been awarded the Military Medal, is a son of Mr William Hunter, Drumkee, Killyman, Dungannon, and prior to enlisting he was engaged in the linen finishing works of Messrs. Stevenson & Son Limited, Dungannon. His brother, Corporal A Hunter, of the same battalion, was killed in action at Ypres in August 1917.
Lance Corporal Thomas Allen Hunter is commemorated locally on Dungannon War Memorial.
