Thomas John Allen Hunter was the son of William and Margaret J. Hunter, of Drumkee, Coalisland, County Tyrone. Thomas was born about 1899 in County Tyrone. The 1901 census records ‘Allan’ as 2 years old. The family was living Drumkee, Drumaspil, Tyrone. Thomas’ father was a farmer. By 1911, Thomas J was a 12 year old. His occupation was given as “farmer’s son”. The family was still living Drumkee, Drumaspil, Tyrone. Lance Corporal Thomas John Allen Hunter was serving with the 9th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he died on 16th August 1917, age 19.

The Tyne Cot Memorial to the Missing forms the north-eastern boundary of Tyne Cot Cemetery, which is located 9 kilometres north east of Ieper town centre, on the Tynecotstraat, a road leading from the Zonnebeekseweg (N332). The names of those from United Kingdom units are inscribed on Panels arranged by Regiment under their respective Ranks. The names of those from New Zealand units are inscribed on panels within the New Zealand Memorial Apse located at the centre of the Memorial.
