William Patrick Glass was the son of Hugh and Elizabeth Glass, of Clogher, County Tyrone. He was born on 5th July 1885. William Glass emigrated to Canada where he worked as a salesman.. He enlisted on 23rd September 1914 at Valcartier, Quebec. He was 5' 5" tall and single. Private William Patrick Glass was serving with the 4th Battalion of the Canadian Infantry, the Central Ontario Regiment, when he was killed in action on 8th July 1916.

William Patrick Glass was the son of Hugh and Elizabeth Glass. Hugh Glass and Elizabeth Collins were married on 31st July 1873 in the district of Dungannon.
William Glass was born on 5th July 1885. He was the youngest surviving of nine children, all born in the Clogher area. Two younger children died as infants.

The 1901 census shows 15 year old William living with family in Clogher. He was still at school. His father was a boot maker.
Hugh Glass died on 29th April 1908 in Clogher. He was 65 years old.
William Glass emigrated to Canada where he worked as a salesman.
Before enlisting, William had served 2 years with the A.M.C. and 3 months with C.P.A. Reserves.
William enlisted on 23rd September 1914 at Valcartier, Quebec. He was 5' 5" tall and single.

William was diagnosed with bronchitis in November and pleurisy and pneumonia in January 1915. Various illnesses affected him through 1915.
Private Glass had many disciplinary problems. Most of them seemed to have been alcohol related.
Private William Patrick Glass was serving with the 4th Battalion of the Canadian Infantry, the Central Ontario Regiment, when he was killed in action on 8th July 1916.
The Canadian Circumstances of Death Register records that Private Glass was killed in action on 5th April 1918. His unit was in tranches near Mount Sorrel on that day.
Private Glass’s mother, who was still living in Clogher, received his medals and scroll.
Private William Patrick Glass has no known grave and is commemorated on the Menin Gate.
Private William Glass is commemorated locally on Clogher War Memorial and on the WWI tablet in St Macartan's Cathedral in Clogher.
