Francis Murphy was the son of James Murphy of Portadown, Francis was born about 1865. Francis served for a time with the Royal Irish Fusiliers. Francis Murphy and Minnie Lewis were married on 9th April 1897 in the district of Craigavon. They had a total of six children, four surviving. By 1901 they were living in Portadown. By 1911, the family were living near Moy. Francis was a farm labourer. He reenlisted in Dungannon. Lance Sergeant Francis Murphy was serving with the 12th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he died in Belfast on 7th January 1917. He was 52 years old. He is buried in Belfast City Cemetery

Francis Murphy was the son of James Murphy, of Tartaraghan, Portadown, Francis was born about 1865 in Clonearish, County Armagh.
Francis Murphy and Mary ‘Minnie’ Lewis were married on 9th April 1897 in the district of Craigavon. They had a total of six children, four surviving.
Known family: Francis Murphy, Mary Minnie Murphy, William John Murphy (born about 1895), Samuel James Murphy (born 14th February 1898, Portadown), Frederick Ernest Murphy (born 2nd August 1899, Portadown), David Herbert Murphy (born 28th May 1901, Portadown), Florence Murphy (born 18th August 1902, Portadown. , died ?).
The 1901 census lists Francis as age 33 living with his wife and family at house 65 in Obin Street, Portadown. Francis’ occupation is given as a soldier, a sergeant with the Royal Irish Fusiliers.
The 1911 census lists Francis as age 43, living with his family at house 1 in Derryhubbert South, Killyman, County Armagh. Francis was an Army Pensioner and a farm labourer.
Francis Murphy reenlisted in Dungannon. He was living in Loughgall.
No medal card can be found for Francis.
