Hugh Devlin was the son of Mr J Devlin and Charlotte Devlin.

Hugh was born, according to his enlistment papers, on 16th June 1891 in the Dungannon area. No record can be found on GRONI as yet.

Hugh later emigrated to Canada.

Prior to enlisting Hugh Devlin worked as an electrician.
|
Hugh Devlin enlisted on 28th April 1915 at Calgary with the Canadian Infantry. He gave his next of kin as his mother, Mrs Charlotte Devlin, who was living at 83 Cambridge Street, Stafford, England.

After training at Shorncliffe in Kent, he joined the 73rd Battalion.

Private Hugh Devlin was transferred to 10th Battalion on 16th May 1915.
|
On 25th November 1916 Private Devlin was admitted to hospital with myalgia (muscle pain). On 26th February 1917 he re-joined his unit.

On 9th April 1917, shortly after the commencement of the Vimy Ridge attack, Private Devlin was wounded and evacuated to No 6 Casualty Clearing Station.

Private Hugh Devlin died of wounds the following day on 10th April 1917 in France

During the course of the war, his parents emigrated to Canada. They lived at 279 12th Avenue, East Burnaby, New Westminster, British Colombia.

Private Hugh Devlin is buried in Barlin Communal Cemetery Extension in France.
