Charles Murray was the son of Francis and Teresa Murray. He was born on 26th February 1896 in Mullanboy, which lies just north of Fintona, County Tyrone. His father was a farm labourer who was born in Scotland. His mother was born in India.. Private Charles Murray was serving with the 7th Battalion of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers when he died of enteric fever on Tuesday 9th November 1915. Charles’ brothers, Francis and Patrick, also died in World War One.

Charles Murray was the second son of Francis and Teresa Murray. Francis Murray and Teresa Birney were married on 20th November 1892 in the district of Omagh.
Charles Murray was born on 26th February 1896 in Mullanboy, which lies just north of Fintona, County Tyrone. He was the second of at least four children.
Known family: Francis Murray, Teresa Murray, Patrick Murray (born 28th December 1893, Ballygawley), Charles Murray (born 26th February 1896, Fintona), Francis Murray (born 7th May 1898, Ballygawley), Lucinda Murray (born 23rd June 1900, Ballygawley).
The 1901 census records Charles as 5 years old, living with the family at house 41 in Garvaghy, Errigal, County Tyrone. His father was a farm labourer who was born in Scotland. His mother was born in India.
Oddly, there’s no sign of their mother and father in the 1911 census. The family had split up.
The 1911 census possibly lists Charles as age 15, working as a servant at house 16 in Fallaghearn, Foremass, Tyrone.
Charles Murray enlisted in Omagh.
Private Charles Murray arrived in the Balkans with the Royal Dublin Fusiliers on 9th August 1915.

Private Charles Murray was serving with the 7th Battalion of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers when he died of enteric fever on Tuesday 9th November 1915.
Charles’ brothers, Francis and Patrick, also died in World War One. Remarkably his two brothers died within 4 days of each other in August 1917.
Private Charles Murray is buried in Chatby Military and War Memorial Cemetery in Alexandria in Egypt. His inscription reads: WITH GOD FOR EVER

Private Charles Murray is listed on page 16 of the Ballygawley War dead book.
