Eugene Rowland Grogan was the son of Michael and Catherine Grogan. His father was in the R.I.C. Rowland Grogan was born in Coalisland, County Tyrone on 2nd November 1893. He was one of about 15 children. By 1896 Michael and the family had moved to Aughnacloy. By 1911 the family had moved to Belfast. Roland had enlisted and was at Army Barracks in Dundalk. Roland Grogan married Fanny Lynch about 1913. He served with the Royal Field Artillery. He was awarded the Military Medal. Sergeant Roland Grogan was serving with "D" Battery of the 83rd Brigade of the Royal Field Artillery when he was killed in action in France on the 17th October 1917

Eugene Rowland Grogan was the son of Michael and Catherine Grogan. Michael Grogan and Catherine O'Beirne were married on 26th December 1881 at Bekan Parish, County Mayo.
Michael Grogan was a sergeant in the Royal Irish Constabulary and as a consequence, the family moved around a lot.
Michael was based in Strabane until at least 1892. He then spent a short time in Coalisland.
Rowland Grogan was born in Coalisland, County Tyrone on 2nd November 1893. He was one of about 15 children.

The 1901 census lists Eugene R as age 8, living with the family at house 16 in Moore Street, Aughnacloy.
The 1911 census does not list Rowland as living with the family at house 24 in Springfield Road, Belfast. His mother had died and his father had retired.
Roland Grogan was living in Belfast when he enlisted.
The 1911 census records an R Grogan living in Army Barracks in Dundalk, County Louth. He was 20 years old and hailed from County Tyrone. He was unmarried and worked as grocer’s assistant.
Roland Grogan married Fanny Lynch about 1913. No record of this can be found on GRONI, so he may have been married elsewhere.
Corporal Roland Grogan arrived in France with the Royal Field Artillery on 19th August 1914.
Sergeant Rowland Grogan was awarded the Military Medal (M.M.). It was listed in the London Gazette on 19th January 1917. Supplement: 29912 Page: 832. It is not known what the Military Medal was awarded for.
Sergeant Roland Grogan was serving with "D" Battery of the 83rd Brigade of the Royal Field Artillery when he was killed in action in France on the 17th October 1917.
Sergeant Rowland Grogan is buried in Bard Cottage Cemetery near Ypres in Belgium.
