James Kelly was the son of James and Mary Kelly. He was born in Ballymcroy about 1886. They were a farming family from Caldrum, Augher, County Tyrone. James was married to Sarah Kelly.she lived in Coulsdon, Surrey, England. James Kelly enlisted in Omagh. He was living in Merstham, Surrey. Private James Kelly was serving with the 1st Battalion of the Irish Guards when he died of wounds on Tuesday 21st May 1918.
Bailleulval is a village in the Department of the Pas-de-Calais about 13 Kms south-west of Arras, and the Cemetery is 1 Km west of the village on the north side of the main road from Arras to Doullens (N25).
