Archibald Massey was the son of Elizabeth Massey. He was born in Augher County Tyrone about 1882. The spelling of the family name, Mossey or Massey, is unclear. The CWGC names him as Massey. The 1901 census shows Archie Mossey living with his mother in Main Street, Augher. He is a postman. The 1911 census shows that Archie married Sarah about 1903. They are living at Main Street, Augher. They have two children. Archie is still a postman. Private Archie Massey served with the 9th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. Private Archibald Massey was killed in action at the Somme on the 1st July 1916, aged about 34.
The Thiepval Memorial will be found on the D73, next to the village of Thiepval, off the main Bapaume to Albert road (D929). Each year a major ceremony is held at the memorial on 1 July.
