Summary      
Mervyn Ross Givan was the youngest son of the John Givan and Araminta Reid Givan. John Givan was an M.P. Mervyn was born in Ballygawley on 25th December 1887. He was the youngest of five children. The family lived at Martray Manor. After his father died in 1895, he emigrated to America. By 1911 he was working for a newspaper in Pembina County in North Dakota. He married Mildred Lewis in January 1914. He enlisted in Canada in September 1914. Private Mervyn Ross Givan was serving with Lord Strathcona's Horse when he was killed in action in France.

Summary      
The Vimy Memorial overlooks the Douai Plain from the highest point of Vimy Ridge, about eight kilometres northeast of Arras on the N17 towards Lens. The memorial is signposted from this road to the left, just before you enter the village of Vimy from the south. The memorial itself is someway inside the memorial park, but again it is well signposted.
