30/11/2021 There is a newspaper report from around that time about a Private Joseph Scott of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, from Coyagh, Fintona. It is not known if this is the same man.
30/11/2021 Private Joseph Scott, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, is in hospital, wounded. Prior to the war he resided in Coyagh, Fintona. He was a member of Clanabogan Company, U.V.F.

28/11/2021 Private Joseph Scott has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. The Thiepval Memorial, the Memorial to the Missing of the Somme, bears the names of more than 72,000 officers and men of the United Kingdom and South African forces who died in the Somme sector before 20 March 1918 and have no known grave. Over 90% of those commemorated died between July and November 1916.

30/12/2015 Private Joseph Scott was serving with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of The Somme on 1st July 1916.
30/12/2015 Joseph Scott enlisted in Beragh, County Tyrone.
30/12/2015 By 1911 it seems Joseph was 13 years old and working as a servant at Shantavny Scotch, Ballygawley, Tyrone.
30/12/2015 The 1901 census records Joseph as 2 years old. The census transcription seems to be very erroneous. 'Tesopl' is Joseph. A look at the original census form shows it to Joseph. His mother is described as “Penny”, which again is obviously Lizzy.
