06/09/2021 The 1911 census lists James as age 22 living with the family at house 14 in Newtownstalaban, St Laurence Gate, County Louth. James was a tenter in a linen factory. All the family worked in the linen factory.
06/09/2021 The 1901 census lists James as age 13, living with the family at house 23 in Yellowbatter, Drogheda, County Louth. He was still at school. Robert McGuffin was a foreman tenter, presumably in a local linen factory.

06/09/2021 James McGuffin was born on 18th April 1888 at 76 Canmore Street, Belfast. He was one of nine children. The family hailed from Dungannon, but they moved about.
06/09/2021 James McGuffin was the son of Robert McGuffin. Robert McGuffin and Margaret Cooke were married on 8th February 1878 in the district of Dungannon.

30/12/2015 Sergeant McGuffin is buried in Zuydcoote Military Cemetery, near Dunkirk in France. In the autumn of 1917, while the XV Corps was holding the Nieuport section, the 34th and 36th Casualty Clearing Stations were posted at Zuydcoote. The Military Cemetery contains, for the most part, the graves of officers and men who died in these hospitals.
30/12/2015 Sergeant James McGuffin was serving with the 15th Battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers when he died of wounds on 13th September 1917. He was 29 years old.
