Henry Strain was the son of Daniel and Matilda Strain (nee McFarlane). He was born on 6th February 1895 in Dungannon. He was the second youngest of at least eight children. The children were born in various places. Henry enlisted in Omagh. Private Henry Strain was serving with the 9th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme on 1st July 1916.

The 1911 census lists Henry as age 17, working as a farm servant at house 7 in Cavanreagh, Sixmilecross, County Tyrone.
Henry enlisted in Omagh.

Private Henry Strain arrived in France with the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers on 5th October 1915.
Private Henry Strain was serving with the 9th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme on 1st July 1916.
Private Henry Strain has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
Private Strain is commemorated locally on the WWI Roll of Honour in Castlecaulfield Church Of Ireland.
