Terence Colton was the son of James and Mary Colton. Terence was born about 1894 in the Cumberland area. The family lived in Benfieldside. James was a puddler/furnace labourer. By 11911 Terence had joined his father at the ironworks as a labourer. He enlisted in Newcastle. Private Terence Colton was serving with the 1st/4th Battalion of the Northumberland Fusiliers when he was killed in action on 26 October 1917. He was 23 years old. It seems his parents moved to Newmills after 1911. It is therefore probable that Private Terence Colton never lived in the Dungannon area.
