Further Information
Working from the tenuous link that his will names his mother as Kathleen from Cess near Fivemiletown, the best guess is a Catherin McLoughlin from Cess, who had a son called Joseph.
Joseph McLoughlin was the son of William and Catherine McLoughlin. William McLoughlin and Catherine McElhinney were married on 25th November 1883 in the district of Dungannon.
The spelling of Catherine’s maiden varies quite spectacularly, Variations include McIlheany, McIllheany, Heany, Heaney, McIlhenny, McIlhinney.
Joseph McLoughlin was born in Fivemiletown, possibly in Strabane. If it was Strabane, he was born on 19th May 1896.
The 1901 census lists Joseph as age 3, living with the family at house 1 in Cleen, Corrylongford, County Fermanagh. His father was a farm labourer.
Known family: William McLoughlin, Catherine McLoughlin, Mary McLoughlin (born 31st May 1885, Fivemiletown), Sarah McLoughlin (born 26th November 1886, Fivemiletown), James McLoughlin (born 31st October 1888, Fivemiletown), John McLoughlin (born 28th November 1890, Fivemiletown), William McLoughlin (born about 1893), Catherine McLoughlin (born about 1896), Joseph McLoughlin (born about 1898), Ellen McLoughlin (born about 1899), Francis McLoughlin (born 25th November 1900), Thomas McLoughlin (born 13th November 1904, Fivemiletown), Patrick McLoughlin (born 12th March 1911, Fivemiletown)
The 1911 census does not list Joseph as living with the family at house 11 in Sess, Cole, county Tyrone.
The 1911 census possibly lists Joseph as age 14, a stable boy for the Mulligan family, living at house 2 in Annagh Demesne, Fivemiletown. William George Mulligan was a coachman.
Joseph McLoughlin was living in Fivemiletown when he enlisted in Enniskillen.
