Joseph Coulter was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Anne Coulter. Thomas Coulter married Eliza Robinson on 12th June 1879 in the district of Fermanagh.
Joseph was born in the Brookeborough area of County Fermanagh on 8th December 1893. The family lived in Mullaghfad, Cooneen, midway between Brookeborough and Fivemiletown.

Lance Corporal Joseph Coulter, M.M., son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Coulter, Mullaghfad, Fivemiletown, killed in action.
In his will, Joseph left all to his mother, Elizabeth Anne Coulter, who was living at Mullaghfad, Fivemiletown, County Tyrone.
Last Will and Testament of Lance Corporal Joseph Coulter dated 25th May 1918:
In the event of my death, I assign all pay to me to my mother, Elizabeth Anne Coulter, Mullaghfad, Fivemiletown, County Tyrone, Ireland. Signed J Coulter, Private, Royal Irish Fusiliers, Reg No 41430.
Private Joseph Coulter M.M. is buried at Dadizeele New British Cemetery, sixteen kilometres east of Ypres in West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
