Ralph Noel Vernon Montgomery was the son of Hugh Maude de Fellenberg Montgomery and Mary Sophia Juliana Montgomery. Hugh Montgomery and Mary Maude were married on 24th March 1870 in the district of Fermanagh.

Mary Sophia Juliana Maude was the youngest daughter of the Reverend and commonly known as the Honourable John Charles Maude, Clerk in Holy Orders, Master of Arts, Rector of Enniskillen. She was born in County Fermanagh.

From the Mid Ulster Mail dated Saturday 26th August 1916:
Captain R N V Montgomery, Royal Artillery, the youngest son of Mr H de Fellenberg Montgomery, D.L., Blessingbourne, Fivemiletown, is reported wounded. Two of his brothers, Major General A A Montgomery, R.A., and Brigadier General H M de F Montgomery, R.A., have served with distinction in the present war, being mentioned in dispatches and specially promoted. A third brother, Captain W A Montgomery, is serving in the North Irish Horse.
Ralph Montgomery's last will and testament information: Montgomery Ralph Neal Vernon of Blessingbourne, Fivemiletown County Tyrone. Major in H.M. Army died 1 April 1919 at The Military Hospital Doullens France. Administration Belfast. 17 January to Hugh Maude de Fellenberg Montgomery major general (retired) in H.M. army C.B. C.M.G. Effects £1250.
Major Ralph Noel Vernon Montgomery is buried in Doullens Communal Cemetery Extension No. 1. Doullens is a town in the Department of the Somme, approximately 30 kilometres north of Amiens.
Major Ralph Noel Vernon Montgomery is commemorated locally in Fivemiletown Parish Church. There is a memorial window which features Saint Barbara, the patron saint of artillerymen. It was unveiled on Sunday 13th March 1921. It was erected by the parents and brothers of Major Ralph Montgomery DSO. “Four brothers from the Blessingbourne family saw active service in the war,” said the Lord Bishop of Clogher “three of them were in the artillery. In the providence of God three came safely through it all, and the window will perpetuate the memory of the one who had made the great sacrifice.”
Major Ralph Noel Vernon Montgomery is also commemorated locally on Fivemiletown War Memorial and also on the WWI Roll of Honour in St John's Church, Fivemiletown.
