Little is known of John Stinson’s early life. There were two John Stinsons living in Clontyfallow according to the census. Below are various census references which refer to them.
A report in the Tyrone Courier from 1917 reported on a Corporal John Steenson, of the Canadian Rifles, who was wounded by shrapnel in leg and arm, and who belonged to Clontyfallow. So it seems that both served during the war.
The ‘Canadian’ Private John Stinson (Service No 754240) served with the 19th Battalion of the Canadian Infantry. He too hailed from Clontyfallow. His mother was called Margaret. He was born about 1886. He survived the war.
There was a John Stinson who married Minnie Williamson on 5th March 1914 in the district of Dungannon.

Sergeant John Stinson arrived in the Balkans with the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers on 16th July 1915. He had the service number 3569.

Sergeant John Stinson was serving with the 17th Battalion of the Worcestershire Regiment when he died in France on 4th December 1918.
