Peter Rafferty was a son of Thomas and Ellen Rafferty. He was born on 14th June 1894 in Coalisland, County Tyrone. He was one of at least seven children, all born in Coalisland. The family lived in Coalisland. Peter worked as a labourer in a brick yard. Private Peter Rafferty was serving with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme on 1st July 1916.

Peter Rafferty was a son of Thomas and Ellen Rafferty. Thomas Rafferty and Ellen McCann were married on 21st January 1889 in the district of Dungannon.
Peter Rafferty was born on 14th June 1894 in Coalisland, County Tyrone. He was one of at least seven children, all born in Coalisland.
The 1901 census records Peters as 6 years old. The family were living in Brackaville, Tullyniskane near Coalisland. Thomas and Ellen were both mill workers.

The 1911 census reveals that Peter and the family have moved to Coalisland Town. Peter was 16 years old, has left school and was working as a labourer in a brick yard.
Peter Rafferty enlisted in Dungannon with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.
Private Peter Rafferty was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme on 1st July 1916. He was 22 years old.
Unlike many who died at the Somme, Private Rafferty has a grave and is buried at Y Ravine Cemetery in Beaumont-Hamel.
Private Peter Rafferty is commemorated locally on Dungannon War Memorial.
