The family was now living in Farlough, Tullyniskane, Tyrone. Private (2nd Class) Walter Augustus Montgomery was serving with the Royal Air Force, 2nd Air Park when he died of disease near Boulogne in France on 23rd November 1918, age 19.

By 1911, Walter's mother Margaret had died. The family was now living in Farlough, Tullyniskane, Tyrone. 12 year old Walter was still at school.
Walter Montgomery enlisted on 15 August 1918. He was 19 years old and had been working as a farm labourer. He gives his address as Beech Grove, Coalisland. Beechgrove House lay due west of Coalisland near Derryvale Woolen Mill

Terlincthun British Cemetery is situated on the northern outskirts of Boulogne. The first rest camps for Commonwealth forces were established near Terlincthun in August 1914 and during the whole of the First World War, Boulogne and Wimereux housed numerous hospitals and other medical establishments.
