It is believed James Howe was the son of John and Mary Howe. He was born on 24th July 1897 in Moy, County Tyrone. By 1901 the family had moved to Belfast. By 1911 James had left school and was working as an errand boy. His father was a labourer. Private James Howe was serving with the 9th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he was killed in action in France & Flanders on Wednesday 15th August 1917.

It is believed James Howe was the son of John and Mary Howe. John Howe and Mary Mallon / Mellon were married on 16th May 1894 in the district of Dungannon.
James Howe was born on 24th July 1897 in Moy, County Tyrone.
The 1901 census lists James as age 4, living with the family at house 9 in Ballyclare Street, Clifton, Belfast. John Howe was a general labourer.
