James Barrett was the son of James and Mary Barrett (nee Elliott). He was born on 14th January 1881 near Caledon. His father was a band master. James Barrett (junior) married Mary Callaghan on 25th January 1906. They went on to have four children. Sergeant James Barrett was serving with the 7th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he died in France on 15th June 1916.

James Barrett (junior) married Mary Callaghan on 25th January 1906 in Templemore Roman Catholic Church in Derry. They went on to have four children.

The 1911 census lists James as age 30, living with his wife and family at house 20.2 in Union Street, Londonderry. James was a general labourer.
James Barrett enlisted in Londonderry.
Sergeant James Barrett was serving with the 7th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he died in France on 15th June 1916.
Sergeant James Barrett is buried in Philosophe British Cemetery at Mazingarbe, north west of Lens in France.
Sergeant James Barrett is commemorated locally on the World War One Roll of Honour in St John Parish Church, Caledon. He is erroneously listed as Sergeant Major.
