The 1901 census lists James as age seven, living with the family at house 8 in Carrickaness, Glenaul, County Armagh. His father was a flax dresser.
James Sheridan was living in Sixmilecross when he enlisted in Omagh.
Private James Sheridan arrived in the Balkans with the Royal Dublin Fusiliers on 9th August 1915.

In his will, he left all to his mother, Mary Sheridan, who was living at Allistragh, County Armagh.

In the event of my death, I give the whole of my property and effects to my mother Mrs Mary Sheridan, Allesbraghmile, Armagh, Ireland. Signed James Sheridan, Private 2nd Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Date 29th September 1918.
James’ brother, Private Thomas Sheridan,, also died in the war.
Private James Sheridan is buried in Doingt Communal Cemetery Extension. His inscription reads: AT THE RIVER'S CRYSTAL BRINK CHRIST SHALL JOIN EACH BROKEN LINK
The CWGC record Private James Sheridan as the son of James Sheridan of Mullyconnor, Dungannon, County Tyrone. It also records that his brother Thomas Sheridan, also died in the war.
Private James Sheridan and his brother are listed on page 152 of the Armagh Dead in the Great War.
