William George Motum was born in London about 1884. William Motum met his wife Hannah in Dublin. William Motum served in India and returned to Aden possibly in the early part of 1914. When war broke out, the Battalion was shipped to France. Aden was not an accompanied tour so on return from India the family returned to their home in Aughnacloy. Company Sergeant Major Motum was serving with ‘E’ Company of the 1st Battalion of the Royal Irish Rifles when was killed in action on 10th March 1915. He was 31 years old.
