Bernard Laverty was the oldest son of Charles and Catherine Laverty. He was born on 28th October 1899 in Clonoe, Coalisland, County Tyrone. He was one of three children, all born in the Coalisland area. Private Laverty served initially with the Connaught Rangers and later served with the Leinster Regiment. He was killed in France on the 4th September 1918.

The 1901 census records Bernard Laverty as age 1 living at house 13 in Annaghnaboe, Meenagh, Tyrone. His father was a farmer.
Reports suggest that his father died and his mother remarried. This may explain why no record can be found of the family in the 1911 census.
Bernard Laverty enlisted in Hamilton, Lanarkshire. He was living in Motherwell.
Private Laverty served initially with the Connaught Rangers, service number 6619.
He later served with the Leinster Regiment, service number 18174.
Private Bernard Laverty was serving with the 2nd Battalion of the Leinster Regiment when he was killed in France on the 4th September 1918.
Private Bernard Laverty has no known grave and is commemorated on panel 10 on Ploegsteert Memorial in Belgium.
