Dear Annie, I write you these few lines hoping to find you in good health as it leaves me the same at present Annie. I received the papers all right but I got no letter which I was expecting from you. Let me know if you sent one. Has some of them gone astray.

Annie? I hope your mother is getting on alright. Tell your children I was asking for them. I hope they are keeping well. Annie, they were asking me for my next of kin and I signed your name as there is no one else I would give anything to except yourself Annie. We got on pay and I got a three shillings postal order

I kept it three days waiting on an answer from you to send it to you but we were on bathing parade and I either lost it out of my pocket or it was taken out of them. But no matter, I will be more careful the next time. Annie I told the Colour Sergeant of my company, I was leaving you four pence per day while we are here. I suppose if we go away, we will likely sign the will. Annie, there are an awful crowd of

us here. We are attached to one of our own militia battalion and we have to fight nearly for over food. I wish we were away from about them.
