William Bryans was the son of John and Annie Bryans. He was born on 9th October 1875. He was one of at least seven children, all born in Brookeborough. Private William Bryans initially served with Lincolnshire Regiment (No 39229). Private Bryans later transferred to Labour Corps (No 31277). Private William Bryans was serving with the 14th Labour Corps when he died of nephritis on Saturday 9th February 1918 in France.

An unknown Belfast newspaper reports that a Rifleman William Bryans of the Lincolnshire Regiment, had been wounded. He was listed as living at 53 Renfrew Street, Belfast at the time.

Private William Bryans is buried in Wimereux Communal Cemetery in France. His inscription reads THY WILL BE DONE.
