William Archer was the son of Edward and Emily Archer. William was born on the 25th July 1881 in Caledon, County Tyrone. William Archer emigrated to Canada and was working as a lumberman before enlisting in March 1915. Private William Archer was serving with the 87th Battalion of the Canadian Infantry when he was killed in action in France on 24th March 1918.

William Archer was the son of Edward and Emily Archer. Edward Archer and Emily Sarah Tenner were married on 2nd February 1875 in the district of Dungannon.
William Archer was born on the 25th July 1881 in Caledon, County Tyrone. He was one of nine children.

The 1901 census does not list William as living with the family at house 81 in Duncairn Street, Dock Ward, Belfast. His father was an insurance agent.
William Archer emigrated to Canada.
The 1911 census does not list William as living with the family at house 37 in Antrim Road, Dock Ward, Belfast. His father was a coal agent.
Prior to enlisting, he was working as a lumberman. William had served for some time with the 46th Imperial Yeomanry.
William Archer enlisted in Port Arthur, Ontario on 29th March 1915. He was 32 years old. He was 5 foot 7 and had a scar on his left leg.
Private Archer listed his next of kin as Emily Archer of 81 Antrim Road, Belfast.
On 10th April 1916, after training, he arrived in England from Canada. On 5th May he joined his unit and went to the front.
On 26th September 1916 he received a gunshot wound to his left forearm. He was latterly removed to England for treatment.
On 4th May 1917 he returned to France. 20th May Private Archer contracted gonorrhoea. He was in hospital until 19th June 1917.
On 26th July 1917 Private Archer was transferred to 87th Canadian Infantry Battalion and returned to front.
Private William Archer was serving with the 87th Battalion of the Canadian Infantry when he was killed in action at Lens in France on 24th March 1918.
The Canadian Circumstances of Death Register records that Private Archer was killed in action at Lens on 24th March 1918.
Private William Archer is buried in Sucrerie Cemetery, Ablain-St. Nazaire, France.
The CWGC records Private Archer as the son of Emily Archer, of 81 Antrim Road, Belfast, and the late Edward Archer. He is also recorded as being a native of Caledon, County Tyrone.
