Thomas Henry Irwin was the son of George and Eliza Irwin. Thomas was born on 25th April 1889 in Clogher, County Tyrone. The 1901 census lists the family living in Nurchossy Irish, an area midway between Fivemiletown and Clogher. Thomas Irwin arrived in New York as a 20 year old farmer from Fivemiletown in May 1909. His destination is given as Ida, Iowa. Thomas worked as a farmer there until he was drafted. Thomas Irwin arrived in France in May 1918 as part of the 58th Battalion of the US Army. Thomas apparently was one of those early casualties among those men detailed to the French lines. Thomas Irwin was killed in action on 15th July 1918 near Chateau Thierry, France.
Fivemiletown Church of Ireland Cemetery lies on the Murley Road. If coming from Dungannon, the Murley Road is a right turn at the entrance to the village. The Churchyard is 50m along that road on the right hand side. It is also known as Saint John's Parish Church, Fivemiletown.
