David Samuel Massey was the son of David and Eliza Mossey. He was born in Augher, Co. Tyrone about 1890. The 1901 census records David S as 10 years old. The family is living at Main Street, Augher. Davidís father is a farm labourer. At some point David Samuel became the husband of Nora Massey (nee Patterson), of Liverpool. Lance Sergeant David Samuel Mossey was serving with the 4th Battalion of the King's (Liverpool Regiment) when he died on 26 September 1917, aged 26. Lance Sergeant David Samuel Massey is commemorated on Clogher War Memorial as Samuel Mossey.

The Tyne Cot Memorial to the Missing forms the north-eastern boundary of Tyne Cot Cemetery, which is located 9 kilometres north east of Ieper town centre, on the Tynecotstraat, a road leading from the Zonnebeekseweg (N332). The names of those from United Kingdom units are inscribed on Panels arranged by Regiment under their respective Ranks. The names of those from New Zealand units are inscribed on panels within the New Zealand Memorial Apse located at the centre of the Memorial.
