Very known is little of William Shaw. He is listed on the World War One memorial plaque in Fivemiletown Methodist Church. A link to Fivemiletown has not been established. Sergeant William James Shaw was serving with 19th Battalion of The King's (Liverpool Regiment) when he died on 9th April 1917. The CWGC record Sergeant William James Shaw as the husband of Edith Mary Shaw, of 1 Roman Villas. Church Fields, Snodland, Kent.
The Arras Memorial is in the Faubourg-d'Amiens Cemetery, which is in the Boulevard du General de Gaulle in the western part of the town of Arras. The cemetery is near the Citadel, approximately 2 kms due west of the railway station.
