Summary
Michael John O’Donnell was the son of Richard and Elizabeth Wilson. Fusilier Michael John O’Donnell was serving with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Irish Fusiliers when he died on 27th May 1944 in Italy due to ten minutes of intense shelling during the night. He was originally buried at GSGS Map Ref. 1CGR.WMB.2114, but later reinterred in Cassino War Cemetery.
Cassino War Cemetery lies in the Commune of Cassino, Province of Frosinone, 139 kilometres south-east of Rome. Take the autostrada A1 from Rome to Naples and leave it at the Cassino exit. At the junction of this exit and the road into Cassino, is the first of 6 clearly visible signposts to the cemetery and memorial.
