12/01/2020 After having been married for only ten months, Sapper Alfred Button, R.E., of 22, Leicester-road, Lewes, died in Belfast on August 3rd following an operation. The funeral took place on Saturday at St. Anne's Church, the internment following at Lewes Cemetery. The service was conducted by the Rev. H. A. Edwards. Sapper Button, who was 27 years old, was married on September 27th, 1941 at St. Anne's Church, Lewes, to Miss F. L. Irwin of Northern Ireland. Before he joined the Army at the beginning of the war he was a porter at South Coulsdon Railway Station, having previously worked at Lewes Station.

12/01/2020 The CWGC record Sapper Alfred Stanley Button as the son of Henry and M J Button of Lewes. He is also rlisted as the husband of Florence Irwin Button, of Dungannon, County Tyrone. It is also noted that he was awarded the Boy Scouts' Gilt Cross for Gallantry.
12/01/2020 Alfred Stanley Button is buried in Lewes Cemetery, near Brighton in Sussex. His inscription reads: HIS LIFE WAS SHORT HIS LOVE WAS GREAT. LOVING WIFE, MUM, DAD, BROTHERS AND SISTER.
