James Kelly was the son of James and Mary Kelly. He was born in Ballymcroy about 1886. They were a farming family from Caldrum, Augher, County Tyrone. James was married to Sarah Kelly.she lived in Coulsdon, Surrey, England. James Kelly enlisted in Omagh. He was living in Merstham, Surrey. Private James Kelly was serving with the 1st Battalion of the Irish Guards when he died of wounds on Tuesday 21st May 1918.

The 1911 census lists James as age 22, living with the family at house 1 in Caldrum, Augher, County Tyrone. They were a farming family.
James was married to Sarah Kelly.
James Kelly enlisted in Omagh. He was living in Merstham, Surrey.
Medal card
Private James Kelly was serving with the 1st Battalion of the Irish Guards when he died of wounds on Tuesday 21st May 1918.
His estate was not settled until 14th April 1932 in Belfast. His effects of £5 0s 0d was left to a postman called John Mullan.
Private J Kelly is buried in Bac-Du-Sud British Cemetery, Bailleulval, Pas de Calais, France. His inscription reads: MAY HE REST IN PEACE AND PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON HIM
