William John White Carson was the son of William McRobert Carson and Sarah Carson. William was born about 1887 in County Down, probably in the Belfast area. William was a student at the Royal School Dungannon between 1900 and 1902. William’s father was an Estate Agent on the Ormeau Road, Belfast. William enlisted with the 14th (Young Citizens) Battalion of the Royal Irish Fusiliers. The 14th Battalion were drawn from members of the Belfast Ulster Volunteers. By January 1915 William had been gazetted and was now 2nd Lieutenant Carson. 2nd Lieutenant Carson was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme on 1st July 1916. He was 29 years old.

William John White Carson was the son of William McRobert Carson and Sarah Carson. William was born about 1887 in County Down, probably in the Belfast area.
William was a student at the Royal School Dungannon between 1900 and 1902.
The 1901 census lists William J W Carson as age 14 living with the family at house 29 in Knock Church Road, Pottinger, County Down. William Senior was a House and Estate Agent, Property Broker and Auctioneer.

The 1911 census lists William J W as age 24 living with the family at house 11 in Ormeau Road, Ormeau, County Down. Like his father, William was an estate and house agent.
Family: William M Carson, Sarah Carson, Sarah J Mc A Carson (born about 1880), Ellenor Margretta B Carson (born about 1884), William John White Carson (born about 1887).
William enlisted with the 14th (Young Citizens) Battalion of the Royal Irish Fusiliers. The 14th Battalion were drawn from members of the Belfast Ulster Volunteers in September 1914.

By January 1915 William had been gazetted and was now 2nd Lieutenant Carson.
The battalion were trained at Finner Camp and Randalstown.
In July 1915 the Battalion were moved to the south of England.
By October, they were in France, landing in Boulogne. The Battalion was attached to the 109th Brigade, the 36th Ulster Division.
2nd Lieutenant Carson was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme on 1st July 1916. He was 29 years old.
The CWGC record 2nd Lieutenant William John White Carson as the only son of William McRobert Carson and Sarah Carson, of Tareen House, Old Cavehill Road, Belfast.
2nd Lieutenant William Carson has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
