Summary      
James Joyce was the second son of Thomas David Joyce and Elizabeth Joyce. He was born on 31st July 1892. All twelve children were born in the in the Aughnacloy area of County Tyrone. They were a farming family from Glenkeen. Private James Joyce arrived in France with the 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons on 16th December 1914. Private Joyce served for almost the entirety of the war. Private James Joyce was serving with the 5th (Inniskilling) Dragoons when he was killed in action in action in France on 26th March 1918. James was 25 years old.

James Joyce was the second son of Thomas David Joyce and Elizabeth Joyce. Thomas Joyce and Elizabeth Kerr were married on 7th June 1888 in the district of Dungannon.
James was born on 31st July 1892 in the Aughnacloy area of County Tyrone. All twelve children were born in the Caledon – Ballymagran area. Ten survived.
The 1901 records James as age 8 living with the large family at house 6 in Glenkeen, Ballymagran, County Tyrone. David Joyce was a farmer.
Ballymagran is an area in the parish of Aghaloo. Aghaloo borders on Aughnacloy.

The 1911 census does not list James as living with the family at house 2 in Glenkeen, Ballymagran, County Tyrone.

Private James Joyce arrived in France with the 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons on 16th December 1914.
There is a record of the death of a Thomas Joyce on 27th January 1916 in the Ballymagran area. This may have been James’ father. However, his age is given as 65.
Private James Joyce served for almost the entirety of the war.
Private James Joyce (7158) was serving with the 5th (Inniskilling) Dragoons when he was killed in action in action in France on 26th March 1918. James was 25 years old.
Private James Joyce has no known grave and is commemorated on panel 3 of the Pozieres Memorial in France.
There is a James Joyce listed on Portadown War Memorials but this is believed to be 14355 Private James Joyce, Royal Irish Fusiliers, born in Portadown.
