John McGarrity was the son of John and Elizabeth McGarrity. John was born in Dungannon about 1890. John McGarrity was for a time with the Royal Horse and Royal Field Artillery (No 134002). Private John McGarrity was serving with the 1st Battalion of the Connaught Rangers when he died in Mesopotamia on Tuesday 14th Aug 1917. He was 27 years old. The CWGC record Private McGarrity as the son of John and Elizabeth McGarrity of 6 Waverley Terrace, Dennistoun, Glasgow.
Baghdad (North Gate) War Cemetery is located in a very sensitive area in the Waziriah Area of the Al-Russafa district of Baghdad. The main entrance to the cemetery is located opposite the College of Arts and the Institute of Administration in Baghdad University and adjacent to the Iraqi Cigarette Factory in Waziriah Area and the Press of Ministry of Defence.
