Stanley Herd Smith was the son of John and Elizabeth Smith (nee Herd). Stanley was born about 1898 in County Tyrone. The 1901 census records Stanley as age 2. Stanley’s father John Smith was a linen manufacturer and Justice of the Peace. The family lived at Mullaghmore, Donaghmore, Tyrone. Stanley was a pupil at St Andrew's College, 21 St. Stephen's Green Dublin.Second Lieutenant Stanley Herd Smith was serving with the 2nd Battalion of the Tank Corps when he died on 27th May 1918. Age: 20.

Summary      
Frechencourt is a village in the Somme department of France and is approximately 12 kilometres north-east of Amiens. From Amiens head along the D929 towards Albert. At the village of Querrieu turn left along the D30 towards St Gratien and then first right along a minor road towards Frechencourt. The Commonwealth Commission plot is at the rear of the village cemetery.
